This footwork drill develops the boxer’s lateral agility and can directly translate to boxing-specific movements. The drill requires 6 to 10 cones and 3 to 4.5 meters straight.
Setting it up
Place 6-10 cones in a straight line. The distance between each cone may range from 1 ft to 2 ft, with shorter distances being harder.
How to Do
- To start, the boxer’s lead foot is positioned next to the first cone.
- The boxer’s feet shuffle to the outside of each cone until finished.
- While stepping, their arms should be shifting naturally.
The icky shuffle can directly develop the speed with which a boxer moves off-line. The movements involved can also be boxing-specific. For example, a boxer may close the distance with exactly the same movements.
